The bougainvilleas began growing again this spring..
2024 Update: I've lost several Bougainvilleas to freeze damage throughout the years and I don't want to lose anymore. When it gets too cold, their leaves and roots may get frost damage. When their roots get frost damage they don't seem to make a comeback.
But it is possible for Bougainvilleas to recover after frost damage, I've seen mine make a comeback.
I'll just have to be more vigilant about protecting their roots from the freezing temperatures in the future.
- I've read Bougainvilleas can tolerate temperatures above 32F, but 40F is going to be my personal cutoff point. When temperatures are predicted to go below 40F, I'll cover my Bougainvilleas.
- I'll wrap them in a cozy frost cloth or blanket to help protect their leaves.
- I can add a layer of much to help protect the roots from frost damage.
